Help Employees Achieve Their Goals
Most of us, when trying to motivate people, first decide what we want, then persuade others to want the same thing, notes Leaderships. Napoleon Bonaparte knew better; he found out what his men wanted most, then did everything he could to help them to get it.
When his soldiers were starving, he promised them food in exchange for victory. When they thought of deserting, he asked how they wanted to return home- as conquerors or as losers. When they were fighting in the shadows of the pyramids, he told them, “Forty centuries are looking down on you.”
Helping others archive their goals- that’s the essence of leadership.
