3 Tips on Business Casual

Casual attire in the workplace can be beneficial and imrpove morale. But there’s no getting around the need for some sort of dress code even in a casual environment. The time to set the proper tone is at the beginning.

As manager, you can set the example. After all, whether or not your company has a dress code, how your staffers dress at the office depends a great deal on how you dress up yourself. So here are some useful guidelines to follow:

1. Err on the side of conservative dressing. Even on a day when no outside individuals are scheduled to drop in, you never know when someone potentially important to the company might just drop by.
2. Dress down only on dress-down days. If Friday is the casual day in your office, then that’s the only day anyone can dress casually. Make one exception and there’s no turning back.
3. Don’t ignore dress down days. It’s important to look professional, but if you decide to wear your business suits when everyone else is dressed casually, everyone is uncomfortable.
