Tips to Hit the Target

Expert recommends establishing teams made up of purchasing, engineering, and production staff. Give them the goal of reducing costs to some percentage below the existing budget. It’s amazing how often a team hits the new target.

Team members tell suppliers, “This is all we have to spend on these materials.” Suppliers understand the limits and usually cooperate, adjusting specs, standards, and designs until the goal is met.

5 Tips on How to Cut Interior Lighting Costs

Before spending on new lighting systems, try the following:
1. Relocate work stations that need more light. Group them in areas with high illumunation, such as near windows. Reduce lamps in areas where less light is needed.
2. Install/replace new energy saving lights where possible. They use less energy and last twice as long as old ones.
3. Clean lamps and lenses regularly to keep fixtures’ illuminations at a maximum.
4. Campaign to turn off lights where and when not needed.
5. Color-code light switches – those to be on during the regular work day and those to be left on only for late-shift work and maintenance.
